In India, TV rating body BARC has appointed Viacom 18 CEO Sudhanshu Vats as its new Chairman, following the departure of Punit Goenka, who serves as MD and CEO of Zee Entertainment.
BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) was
launched last year, and later
partnered with Nielsen / Kantar joint venture TAM India, to form a new meter management company. At the end of last year, the organisation
issued a global request for information (RFI), in preparation for expanding its measurement offering across all digital platforms.
Vats (pictured) has been associated with BARC India since its launch, and has contributed to all developments while serving as a member of the Board of Directors. He has been Group CEO of Viacom / Network 18 Group joint venture Viacom 18 for more than four years, having previously held senior roles at Unilever, where he worked for nearly twenty years, and latterly served as VP of the firm’s laundry business in South Asia and the Radiant brand globally. Earlier, Vats was VP – Marketing at BP (Castrol India).
He takes over from Goenka, who has completed his tenure as BARC India Chairman. CEO Partho Dasgupta comments: ‘We welcome Sudhanshu as our new Chairman. Being a veteran in the industry, Sudhanshu will bring in his larger perspective in the media and entertainment space. Punit, as the first Chairman has given the team the right thrust and the BARC team thanks him for his whole hearted support.’
