Nordic Countries lead European Broadband Usage | October 2 2001 |

Sweden and Denmark are leading Europe in terms of households connecting to the Internet via broadband, according to the latest figures from NetValue. The respective figures are 13.8% and 13.2%. Of the eight countries included in the survey, the UK is lagging behind ranked seventh, with just 2.3% of households (210,600) connecting to the Internet with a broadband connection in August this year. 1.7% of UK households connected through cable, 0.5% through ADSL and 0.1% using satellite. Norway leads for ISDN usage, with over half of all households (54.7%) using ISDN, with Germany in second position. Spain leads for streaming usage at 15.8%, with France in second position at 12.7%. "Streaming" media means audio or video files that are viewed live, rather than having to download them onto a PC before playing them. These files could be songs, videos, news reports, sports coverage or any other audio or video content. In terms of streaming using a high-speed connection, Sweden leads Europe, with one in four streamers connecting via broadband. Simple printable version of this article.
