ESOMAR’s Automotive Conference
February 7 2002

The International ESOMAR Automotive Conference & Exhibition is approaching fast. Scheduled for the 4-6th March in Lausanne, Switzerland, this bi-annual research forum will run alongside the International Motor Show in Geneva as usual.

Over the past six years the conference is thought to have attracted over 1,500 participants from 40 different countries worldwide. And as ever, this year's event should provide a useful sounding board for all those involved in researching the automotive industry.

Adrian Wimbush, chairman of the Programme Committee, has identified this year's main concerns, 'Despite record sales in the major markets in recent years, manufacturers are losing money. As they fight for sales, increasingly it is the retail offering such as price and finance that is the leading marketing tool.'

Given this, the conference papers and debates will address how the industry can respond to tough trading conditions. The topics under discussion will include:

  • Targeting Customers
  • Brand Loyalty and Brand Perception
  • New Products and Innovation
  • New and Evolving Key Trends.

In addition to the major automotive companies, representatives from the parts, services and car retailing sector are set to share their views on distribution, marketing and services. The companies presenting will include Jaguar Cars, Volkswagen, General Motors Corporation, Honda, BMW Group, Ford Motor Company and Michelin from the supplier side and Taylor Nelson Sofres Automotive and NOP Automotive from the research side.
