GIMRA Conference on Changing Marketplace
March 8 2002

General insurance underwriters in the UK are to enjoy their own specialist conference next month, themed on the subject of 'Distribution Evolution'. This year's General Insurance Market Research Association (GIMRA) get-together will be held on the 18 April in London.

The event will allow delegates to hear a number of prominent speakers presenting their perspective on changing consumer needs within the general insurance market. It will also provide a forum for debate on the technology available now and in the future to meet the market's evolving needs.

The confirmed speakers have now been listed, including Mike Williams (chief executive of British Insurance Brokers' Association), Mark Christer (strategic development manager of MoreThan), Dennis Johnston (futurologist, BT Exact) and Charlotte Cornish of the FutureFoundation. Charlotte will hopefully be presenting the results of the latest GIMRA research exploring the 'self-service society'.

Explaining the thinking behind this year's event, Matthew Cullimore, GIMRA chairman, said, 'The concept of new channels of distribution for insurance has been with us since the advent of the direct players in the mid 1980's. Since then the degree of change has been ever-rapid with the new companies and new technologies playing their part in changing the face of insurance distribution. This seminar will examine how the current players in the industry are looking at this from both a personal and commercial perspective.'
