New Steps in Qualitative Research
August 20 2002

'Beyond research'. This is the theme of this year's Trends Day, the annual conference of the Association for Qualitative Research (AQR) which is due to take place on 29 November 2002. The conference, which is expected to attract a wide cross section of delegates from the marketing and research industries, will examine ways to extend qualitative research beyond its traditional boundaries.

As in previous years, the one-day conference will attract a diverse range of high profile speakers. These prominent speakers, drawn both from within and outside the research world, will address the latest innovations in qualitative research and its increasingly diverse applications. With the findings of qualitative research becoming relied upon more and more in so many unrelated areas, from business and politics to art and religion, Trends Day will provide the opportunity to explore the new avenues that are opening up to researchers and research users.

Amongst the speakers who will be addressing this year's Conference are Charlie Leadbeater, independent writer; Paul Vittles, Managing Director, RBA Research; Patricia Shaw, Co-founder and Associate Director of the Complexity and Management Centre at the Business School of the University of Hertfordshire; Martin Bontoft, Head of Human Factors at design consultancy IDEO; and David Smith, Chairman, Citigate DVL Smith. In addition to thought-provoking speaker papers, the day will incorporate question and answer sessions with panel members aimed at generating debate amongst the delegates.

Ann Whalley, AQR Chair, comments 'Inspiring people to think creatively is the key aim of Trends Day. Qualitative research is about people, the choices we make and the issues which are important to us. It is a dynamic, shifting industry that immerses itself in many walks of life and this is what we want Trends Day to convey. This is not just an occasion for networking. We want people to feel inspired by the speakers and leave feeling that they have learnt something new. With its strong speaker line-up and innovative theme, this year's event promises to be the most successful yet. This conference is aimed at anyone with an interest in qualitative research and we look forward to welcoming delegates from a wide range of industries for what should be a highly interesting and entertaining day.'
