ESOMAR Initiates New Industry Project
September 30 2002

Given the rapid changes in the international MR environment and in ways of working in the MR industry, there is a need to investigate whether current standards of performance should be adapted to reflect current and future professional practice. To this end, ESOMAR has decided to set up a project to explore MR industry dynamics and review definitions of professional standards of performance.

The terms of reference for the effort and the project design will be specified in the near future. 'Legislation is becoming more specific and restrictive,' adds Adam Phillips, Chair of ESOMAR's Professional Standards Committee. 'Meanwhile, market research is expanding into CRM, service delivery measurement, database enhancement, etc.'

New forms of information collection play a key role: online data collection, new observation techniques and merging of databases have shaped more opportunities to create deeper insight.

There is a need to take stock and assess impact and consequences of industry dynamics.

The planned project will be caused out in several phases. Close consultation with relevant professional constituencies is foreseen.
