The Worth of Website Design | January 8 2003 |
According to a recent annual survey by Porter Research of corporate website design amongst the FTSE 100 in the UK many are 'walllowing in mediocrity".
Some companies have spent millions on 'useless redesigns' of their website with the study finding 16 sites deemed so bad they should be removed completely. Eight of the redesigned sites were considered worse than in their previous form. For example, Schroders and Severn Trent, ranked 26th and 37th in last year's survey, are now ranked 98th and 97th following expensive redesigns.
According to Adrian Porter, a third of FTSE 100 companies had redesigned their websites, indicating they were taking the medium seriously. The websites were rated on over-all design, navigation, and technical performance.
