Tweenies at the Top Again | January 24 2003 |
The latest September/October wave of the Baby and Young Child Track survey carried out by Carrick James Market Research in the UK, shows that the BBC's Tweenies are still the most favourite cartoon characters with kiddies and have remained so since December 1999.
When asked about, which cartoon characters they liked best, 41% mention the Tweenies. However, this is down from 47%, compared to an increase for nearest rival Bob the Builder, whose popularity has risen from 33% to 35% over the year. The research was carried out in home amongst 529 British children aged six and under, with parents answering for children of four years and younger. The success of the Tweenies TV programme has ensured that Bella and her friends have remained the number 1 favourite characters with small children in the last 3 years, outperforming both the Teletubbies and Bob the Builder.
Not surprisingly the results also confirm that the Teletubbies, Bob the Builder and the Tweenies are particular favourites with the very youngest children. Bob the Builder and Scooby Doo are more popular with boys. The latter character has in fact caught up with the Teletubbies in the popularity stakes in the last year.
