Change at the Top for GfK NOP
In the UK, Phyllis Macfarlane has taken on the new role of Chairman of GfK NOP, while Richard Jameson steps up to her previous position as Managing Director, and joins the global Board of GfK Custom Research.
Macfarlane has been MD of GfK NOP since it acquired NOP World in 2005. Before the takeover, she had worked at NOP since 1996; latterly as MD. Previously, she held roles at INDAL Business Research (later to become NOP Corporate & Financial), MIL Research Group and Denjon.
In the new role as Chairman, Macfarlane will take overall responsibility for the other divisions of the UK company, including the panels, healthcare and media businesses. She will also take on additional global tasks, supporting pan-GfK Custom Research initiatives and promoting GfK's Knowledge Exchange system, to encourage increased interaction, creativity and shared resources between countries.
Jameson took up the post of Deputy MD 12 months ago, in addition to his role as MD of GfK NOP's Business and Technology division. Since 2005, he has held the post of International Sector Leader for Technology markets worldwide, providing guidance to a team of more than 300 technology and B2B researchers across the group. Prior to GfK's acquisition of NOP World, Jameson was the latter's Global Head of Technology.
Macfarlane says of her successor: 'No-one is better suited to take over the leadership in the UK; his grasp of the market research arena is second to none and his vision will shape our business for the future, so that we can continue to grow and be profitable.'
Colin Strong takes over from Jameson as MD of the Business and Technology division, having joined GfK NOP in the mid-1990's. In 2000, he established the Mobile Communications team, and more recently, he has focused on client development across the technology sector. He is currently leading the development of TechTest, GfK's new approach to concept testing in technology markets, and Connected Life, a syndicated study of the wireless Internet.
