YouTube Integrates Tools
Google-owned YouTube is boosting its content management offering for copyright owners and media companies by integrating data from its Content ID and YouTube Insight services.
Content ID allows copyright holders to find and monetize content uploaded to the site, while YouTube Insights is a free analytics tool for media companies. The firm says the latest move will allow copyright holders to track viewer sentiment to determine the best distribution and marketing strategy for music, video and other content clips.
The combined offer will give media companies data on view count, geographic region, most-viewed part of the video, and audience demographics; allow comparison of audience demographics between 'claimed videos' identified by ContentID and 'official versions'; and report on sites and search terms driving the most traffic to uploaded versions.
Data from comScore's Video Metrix service shows that in August 161m US Internet users watched more than 25 billion online videos, with YouTube ranked no.1 with more than 10 billion, and Microsoft sites a distant second with 547m, closely followed by Viacom Digital with 539m and fast-rising Hulu with 488m.
