Employee researcher Opinion Research Corporation (ORC) is to host a free stress seminar at its London offices on 5 September 2001. The event is aimed at human resources professionals and will give advice on tackling the issues caused by stress in the work place.

The half day programme aims to cover all of the main sources of stress in an organisation and explain how to successfully manage their negative effects
The confirmed speakers to date include Angela Puri, ORC International's qualified stress management expert, Carmel Sunley, a partner in employment law at Steele and Co, and John Perry of stress management consultancy HAD.

Explaining the need for the seminar, Angela Puri of ORC International said, 'Stress at work is one of the most pressing issues affecting today's organisations. The effects of workplace stress have implications for health, productivity and staff retention as well as having potentially extremely serious legal implications for employers.'

She continued, 'While it's widely accepted that a moderate amount of pressure at work is beneficial and enhances individual work performance, stress-related disorders are fast becoming the most prevalent reason for worker disability claims, and it's estimated that almost a third of absenteeism can be attributed to stress-linked disorders. It's time organisations began to seriously tackle this issue.'
