New Marketing Head at GM

Car giant General Motors has announced a shake-up of senior execs including the departure of Bob Lutz as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), replaced by Susan Docherty. Lutz remains in his roles of Vice Chairman and advisor on design and global product development.

Previously VP, US Sales, Docherty now takes the role of Vice President, Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing Operations. She reports to Mark Reuss, who becomes President of GM North America.

Chairman Ed Whitacre, who in the last week has assumed the duties of CEO Fritz Henderson on the latters sudden departure, said the moves were aimed at 'improving accountability and responsibility for market performance in North America and around the world', adding: 'I want to give people more responsibility and authority deeper in the organization and then hold them accountable. We've realigned our leadership duties and responsibilities to help us meet our mission to design, build and sell the world's best vehicles.'

Other roles including that of John F. Smith, VP Corporate Planning and Alliances, remain unchanged.

GM, which emerged from federal bankruptcy protection earlier this year, employs 209,000 people worldwide and does business in around 140 countries. Web site: www.gm.com .
