Media6Degrees Appoints Chief Scientist
Social targeting specialist Media6Degrees has expanded its research department with the appointment of data analyst Claudia Perlich as Chief Scientist.
New York-based Media6Degrees (Media6°) has developed an approach to social targeting that uses proprietary algorithms to build audiences that are connected to a brand's existing customers. In 2008, the firm closed a $9m round of investment funding, to further develop its audience creation technology.
The research team was originally formed by Professor Foster Provost, a specialist in the fields of machine learning and data mining. The team is responsible for developing the data analysis and science behind the firm's proprietary social targeting technology.
Perlich joins from IBM Research, where for the past five years, she was a member of the Predictive Modeling data analytics group. During this time, she was awarded the KDD Cup Competition three consecutive times, for excellence in bridging data science research and application.
Perlich has published more than 30 scientific articles during her career, and holds multiple patents in the area of machine learning.
