Ground Truth Raises $7m for Expansion
Mobile measurement firm Ground Truth has secured $7m in Series B financing, which it plans to use to expand its operations in the US and internationally.
Ground Truth was launched in January to provide census-based measures of actual mobile Internet usage from millions of mobile subscribers across the United States. The firm's patent-pending methodology 'True View' gathers data from 2.5 million mobile users, while the firm also taps mobile operators, wireless carriers and infrastructure partners for information.
Since its launch, the company says it has signed dozens of clients and data provider partners including mobile operators, publishers and mobile infrastructure providers. It has also appointed five new media measurement and interactive media technology veterans to serve on its advisory board.
Venture capital firms Emergence Capital Partners and OPENAIR Ventures have participated in this latest round of investment, with support from existing investors Steamboat Ventures and Voyager Capital.
As part of the deal, Emergence Capital Partners' executive Kevin Spain will join Ground Truth's Board of Directors. Spain is an expert in consumer and enterprise technology, having spent his career at companies such as Microsoft and Electronic Arts.
'Ground Truth provides unequalled insight with its accurate and precise measures of actual usage of services on mobile devices,' said Spain. 'I'm eager to join this distinguished Board of Directors and accomplished management team as we deliver the data that is critical to transforming mobile into the world's largest medium.'
