Research Leads Major Panasonic Investment in India
Japanese electronics giant Panasonic is planning a massive expansion of its R&D centre in Gurgaon, India, as part of its ongoing heavy investment in growing its Indian operation.
Panasonic India CEO Daizo Ito, quoted on www.indiatimes.com , said the centre - set up to gauge the requirements of Indian customers - is up and running with twelve staff, 'doing market research for products specifically for the Indian market', but that the company plans to add another two hundred people by the end of next year.
A new 37,000 square metre manufacturing facility at Jhajjar in Haryana will help to almost double the company's overall headcount in India, to almost 20,000 in the next two years.
At present India respresents just 2-3% of Panasonic's total overseas sales, but by 2018 Ito says the plan is to raise this to almost 10%. 'India is the most important country and market for growth for us', he concludes.
