A Victory for Truth
Andy Dexter's agency Truth scooped the blue riband Best Agency award at last night's annual MRS bash in London. A noisy crowd at the capital's Lancaster London Hotel saw Verve take the Best Newcomer, while innovative agencies Firefish and BrainJuicer took three and two awards respectively.
Broadcaster Kate Gerbeau, wife of former Millennium Dome supremo Pierre-Yves (PY) Gerbeau kept the ceremony moving at a good speed while attendees, who paid £140 a place for the privilege, quaffed rather a lot of wine and ate a good meal, according to our reporter Teresa Lynch.
The result was a boisterous occasion. Some of the tables descended into 'drunken yelling' on the announcement of well-received awards, and when execs from Verve went on stage to collect their gong, a celebrity bottom was apparently tweaked, leading the spirited Ms Gerbeau to quip that the agency was 'punching above its weight and pinching in inappropriate places'.
More appropriate drinking and respectful sentiment was occasioned by Dexter, accepting the top prize, who reminded the audience that two years ago his agency had won the Best Newcomer award with the late, great Ginny Valentine a key part of its team: earlier today, colleagues had attended her funeral. The crowd raised a glass to her memory.
The evening, officially the Research Awards 2010, saw a large number of other winners - here's the list in full:
