TNS Acquires Greenfield Custom Research Unit

Taylor Nelson Sofres, through its subsidiary TNS Intersearch, has acquired the custom research division of Greenfield Online, Inc. (GFOL). The custom research staff of GFOL will be fully integrated into TNS Intersearch and will be totally focused on serving the online data collection needs of research companies.

The web-based custom research organisation being acquired by TNS Intersearch conducts hundreds of studies each year for blue chip clients. Under the acquisition agreement, Taylor Nelson Sofres Group companies will be able to access the GFOL online research panel and other sample sources at preferential partner pricing. In the year ending 31 December 2001, the acquired custom research business achieved turnover of USD7.0 million.

Commenting on the acquisition, Mike Kirkham, Chief Executive of Taylor Nelson Sofres, said 'This is an important move for us, as it strengthens our position with clients who are seeking web-based research, which is an increasingly important trend in the US. GFOL has clients in a number of our specialist sectors but there is very little overlap with our existing business. It is, therefore, an excellent fit with TNS Intersearch, our successful US custom business.'

Bruce Shandler, Head of TNS North America, added 'GFOL has one of the most experienced teams in the US when it comes to the design and execution of Internet research and custom panel building. Operating out of TNS Intersearch, they will form part of TNS Interactive, our specialist Internet business, operating across all sectors and regions.'
