Swedish Radio Contract for Kantar Media
Kantar Media has won a six-year contract, beginning in August 2012, for the provision of a new electronic radio measurement service in Sweden, using PPM technology licensed from Arbitron.
The contract, which will be operated by Kantar Media company TNS Gallup, was awarded by Sweden's two main commercial broadcasters, MTG and SBS, with a third, SR, also investing in a test period.
Kantar Media's tool InfoSys+ will analyse data from a panel of 1000 people to provide information on who listens to what, how and at what times of day.
Aside from the US, where its trials (of both kinds) and tribulations have been well documented, PPMs are now used to provide currency measurement services in Canada, Belgium and Kazakhstan, as well as throughout Scandinavia - Norway, Sweden and Denmark - and Iceland. A worldwide total of 85,000 PPMs are in use.
Staffan Rosell, CEO, SBS Radio and Mats Svegfors, CEO, SR Radio said the Swedish radio industry was 'taking a joint step' and added: 'We are confident that this method of measurement will enhance radio's attractiveness to the advertising market.'
Bengt Olsson, Deputy MD, TNS Gallup Sweden, comments: 'As more consumers listen to radio using different devices and time-shifted patterns of consumption, the need for the industry to keep up with sophisticated measurement is vital.'
