Quantcast Raises $8m Investment
US web metrics firm Quantcast has secured a further $8m in funding, adding to the $27.5m in series C financing it raised this time last year to support the roll out of its 'Quantcast Media Program' online ad targeting platform.
Quantcast provides web site owners with traffic, demographic, lifestyle, business and geographic audience data, to help them understand and profile their best customers, and target similar prospects across the web.
Last year's funding was led by Cisco and Polaris Venture Partners. San Francisco-based Quantcast has now raised around $61.2m since its launch in 2006 by co-founders Konrad Feldman and Paul Sutter.
In December 2010, Quantcast and software firm Clearspring agreed to pay $2.4m to settle class-action lawsuits claiming they used Flash cookies to track web users without their permission, despite Quantcast's announcement the previous year that it had stopped using a system which 'resurrected' traditional browser cookies after users had deleted them.
