Customer Communication Congress 2002

Centaur Communications is holding a three day marketing conference in London later this month on the topic of understanding and targeting consumers. The event, running over Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd May with case studies and discussion sessions, will conclude on Friday 24th May with an interactive workshop.

Both formal days are to be chaired by Philip Almond, marketing director UK and Eire for Burger King. Day one will include the following sessions:

  • Evaluating shifting customer trends and demographics to develop successful communication strategies - Doreen Dignan, Head of Consumer Insight, MindShare UK
  • Case Study: Understanding different lifestyle and lifestage breakdowns at cross sector client companies - Rob Haslingden, Senior Consultant, Experian
  • Implementing effective research techniques to understand what the consumer will respond to. Case study - EMAP Insight - Jason Brownlee, Head of Strategic Audience Insight, EMAP
  • Analysing media consumption patterns to identify appropriate communication channels - Colin Mills, Managing Director, Carat
  • Case studies: Modifying your message and marketing strategy - Kanaiya Parekh, Commercial Manager, Tesco.com
  • Panel Session: Evaluating consumer perceptions of marketing and determining how to communicate with them effectively
  • Clever tactics to make the most of a limited marketing budget - Caroline Diamond, Marketing Director, Walkers Snacks
  • Case study: Selecting the most appropriate media to reach specific lifestyle groups: communicating with youth culture - Richard Benson & Steve Armstrong, Bug.


Day two will be similarly as informative, with a programme containing the following:

  • Understanding the consumer perspective of media channel proliferation - James Wildman, Sales Director, Flextech
  • European case studies - Prioritising and identifying the most effective marketing channels
  • Panel debate: how to use new media channels
  • Modifying your message for different media - Alan Young, Creative Director & Richard Huntington, Head of Planners, HHCL & Partners
  • New ideas for achieving cut through beyond the traditional - John Storey, Managing Director, Media Audits
  • Practical 'do's and don'ts' to successfully pull together a campaign - Clare Rossi, Executive Planning Director, Grey Worldwide London
  • Evaluating and analysing the ROI of each element of the marketing mix - Jeffrey Manning, Director of Analytics and Data Management, OgilvyOne
  • Practical techniques to reach fragmented consumer groups effectively - Selia Bellanca, Marketing Director, iVillage.co.uk
  • Case studies: Evaluating the effectiveness of customer communication strategies.


The conference will conclude with a day devoted to a series of interactive workshops. The overall theme has been designated as 'Exploiting New Media Channels And New Technologies To Attract The Hard To Reach Consumer'. The morning will concentrate on the subject of 'Capitalising on innovative routes to market through new media channels' as moderated by Colin Mills, managing director of Carat. The afternoon will address 'Practical applications of emerging technologies to communicate effectively with your customers' and will be steered by Chris Perry, managing partner of DNA.
