Citizens' Panel Listens to Oldham
Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council in the UK has created a new citizen's panel that will enable it to take the views of Oldham residents into account when making its decisions. The panel, called 'The Oldham Way- Listening to Oldham' consists of 1,280 volunteer members from the local community.
The panel has been conceived to enable citizens of Oldham to voice their views and opinions on issues important to the local community. To achieve this, the Council commissioned ORC International to recruit the panel and to conduct the research.
Having been established, the panel will now be surveyed by post and focus group discussions, with the option of being questioned on-line in future years. Additionally, each panel member will be asked to complete at least four surveys per year.
ORC International is also setting up a survey management website that will give Council staff instant access to panel survey results, and will provide an on-line message board facility to allow panel members to share their views and experiences.
More information can be found about the research can be found at the Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council website at www.oldham.gov.uk
