Actian Buys Big Data Specialist ParAccel
Big data management specialist Actian has acquired ParAccel, which offers a proprietary platform through which users can run big data analytics programs. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Founded in 2005, California-based ParAccel provides a database management system supporting more than 500 analytics functions covering both structured and unstructured data. To date, the firm has raised $64m in funding from Amazon and other investors.
The deal comes just four months after Actian acquired data innovation specialist Pervasive Software for $161.9m, after having two of its previous bids rejected. Actian says the latest buy will strengthen its own ability to help execs mine business intelligence from their organizations' big data.
Chuck Berger (pictured), CEO of ParAccel, comments: 'ParAccel is being used by many of the world's leading companies including Amazon, The Royal Bank of Scotland, OfficeMax and MicroStrategy to set them apart from their competition through analytics. With Actian, they have immediate access to a broader portfolio of solutions to turn their data into value.'
