Water Industry Stakeholders Choose MORI

MORI has this week been commissioned to undertake the initial qualitative and quantitative stages of customer consultation research in England and Wales, for the water industry's major stakeholders.

The results will help inform the industry, the regulators and Government about customers' priorities for improvements to the water environment, tap water quality and customer services.

'In contrast to the last Periodic Review in 1999, when there were a number of different customer surveys, one definitive study is now being conducted - encompassing the interests of all the major stakeholders,' explains MORI research director Marilyn Reid. 'The Steering Group we are reporting to includes representatives from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), The Office of Water Services (OFWAT), WaterVoice, the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI), the Environment Agency, the Welsh Assembly Government, English Nature, the Wildlife & Countryside Link and Water UK representing the water and sewerage companies.'

Focus groups, led by MORI's Qualitative HotHouse, have been carried out, and a face-to-face quantitative study among 2,000 English and Welsh households is now taking place. The results will be published in November 2002, in time to provide guidance for stakeholders and Ministers on the scope and pace of potential improvement programmes between 2005-2010, and customers' willingness to pay for these improvements.
