New Survey of MR in Australia
The latest edition of Research News from the Market Research Society of Australia reports that the next Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) survey of the domestic market research industry will go into field in August.
According to Don Jender, director of corporate services and service industries at the ABS, 'The Market Research Services Survey (MRSS) is part of ABS work to extend its Service Industries Surveys program to produce more comprehensive and more regular data on various Australian service industries. The MRSS for reference period 2001-2002 will be the latest cycle of that survey and we plan to publish the results in June 2003. Previous versions of the survey were for reference periods 1992-93 and 1998-99.'
The MRSS caters for some internal ABS data needs and also those of the market research industry. It provides key measures on the performance of the industry and identifies the nature and structure of the industry in terms of employment, income, costs and its contribution to the Australian economy.
The Association of Market Research Organisations (AMRO) and the MRSA have been actively involved in the development of the survey, both in 1998-99 and for the current survey.
