Nielsen Unveils its First Consumer Trends App
Nielsen has launched a mobile app for consumers, to provide information about 'what's hot' across a number of categories such as TV shows, music, movies, books and video games, as well as consumer products like cosmetics, candy and beer.
Drawing from the company's actual ratings and sales data, the new 'TOPTEN' app enables users to personalize their views based on customized demographics such as age, location and gender, and then check out what people like themselves are watching and buying.
As part of the launch, the firm has organized a ten-day, ten-city bus tour of universities around the US, to introduce the app to college students. In addition, there will be a series of local events at each college, including 'silent discos', interactive tents, and custom top 10 lists with content based on insights from students on each campus.
Nielsen COO Mitchell Habib comments: 'This new app provides consumers with a single source for viewing diverse categories of top content and products based on objective data. It's a unique new tool, available nowhere else, to understand what people are actually watching and buying in their communities.'
All categories and lists are presented in English and the app will be initially available in the US for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
