Prima Gains Patents for Location-Tracking Tech
Prima Research, which develops wireless location-tracking technology, has been granted two US patents for a solution tracking any radio frequency emitting tracking device - such as mobile phones, tablets or computers - across any three dimensional space indoors or out.
Prima's technology can be used to track consumers' movements via their wireless-enabled devices. According to the firm, current location tracking systems detect radio signals from wireless devices in only two dimensions, whereas the Prima Research method locates wireless devices in three dimensional spaces - such as shopping malls, large retail stores, airports, sports arenas and bars.
As well as being used for retail and marketing research, the technology can also be used to create real-time mapping and location apps to help customers find goods within stores.
Christopher Price (pictured), co-inventor of the Prima Research method, comments: 'For the first time, marketers have an ability to continuously observe consumer behavior in real-time in a defined space with a sample rate typically better than 90%. No special apps, devices, or individual engagement are needed. The nature and scale of primary research in the real world is about to change forever.'
