Splunk Buys Big Data Tech Firm Cloudmeter
US analytics software company Splunk has acquired machine-generated big data technology firm Cloudmeter for an undisclosed sum.
Founded in 2007 by Michael Dickey (pictured), Cloudmeter identifies value in the massive sets of data that flow through an organization's networks. Dickey now joins Splunk in the role of Network Data Guru.
San Francisco-based Splunk, which offers software to collect, index and harness big data from web sites, apps, servers, networks, sensors and mobile devices, will integrate the tool into its own system, to enable customers to analyze data directly from their networks and correlate it with other machine-generated data.
Godfrey Sullivan, Splunk's Chairman and CEO, comments: 'Cloudmeter has a strong technical team with deep networking expertise. They have built a robust, highly scalable solution that will allow our customers to easily capture network data, either on-premises or in the cloud. We look forward to integrating Cloudmeter technology into Splunk's platform for machine data.'
