M/A/R/C Research Founder Cecil 'Bud' Phillips Dies
Cecil 'Bud' Phillips, the founder of Irving, Texas-based M/A/R/C Research, died on Tuesday at the age of 89.
Phillips founded M/A/R/C in 1965, having previously led the research team at Dallas-based ad agency TracyLocke, where he had worked since 1950. Originally called Marketing and Research Counselors, his company's name was later shortened to M/A/R/C Research, and in 1999 it merged with global marcoms group Omnicom.
Phillips' research remained based on a simple philosophy, 'Find out what people want and make it for them' - and a commitment to 'Do whatever it takes to help clients make the best marketing decisions.' Outside his work, he also played a part in the foundation of the advanced research program at the University of Georgia.
M/A/R/C Research's current President and CEO Merrill Dubrow commented: 'The market research community lost one of its great leaders this week. The impact Bud Phillips had on so many people and the industry can't be measured. He leaves behind a legacy of hundreds of outstanding researchers that he helped train and mentor over his lifetime.'
