3M Buys Healthcare Data Specialist Treo
Innovation company 3M has agreed to acquire US-based healthcare analytics and Business Intelligence provider Treo Solutions, for an undisclosed sum.
Treo employs around 185 people in headquarters in Troy, N.Y. and offices in Denver, CO and Overland Park, Kansas, and uses data from more than 60 health plans to help clients redesign payment structures and transition them to value-based care models. The buy will bring Treo within the 3M Health Information Systems division, and will lead to the worldwide extension of Treo's system, 'jumpstarting' clients of 3M's 360 Encompass System for computer-assisted coding.
Jon T. Lindekugel, President of 3M Health Information Systems, says the combination 'will offer customers access to better, more comprehensive data that gives a more complete picture of the patient across all sites of care', adding: 'It's essential information needed to manage costs and improve patient outcomes under new risk-sharing care models.'
Subject to approvals, the transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of this year.
3M boasts $31 billion in sales and employs 89,000 people in more than 70 countries worldwide. Web site: www.3m.com .
