CustomerSpeak 'Lays Off 500' at San José Center
US-based multilingual data collection and contact center services provider CustomerSpeak has closed down its facility in Mall San Pedro, San José leaving 500 unemployed, according to Costa Rican news site Teletica.
Predecessor firm Datascension had headquarters in Las Vegas, Nevada, and operations in Anaheim, California, San José and Limon, Costa Rica. In 2010, the firm reported a 49.6% drop in second quarter revenues to $1.9m, from $3.8m in the prior year period; and a net loss of $840k, compared with a net profit of $210k for the same period in 2009. A year later, call center company CustomerSpeak LLC stepped in to acquire Datascension's assets and assume its liabilities.
At the end of 2013, CustomerSpeak negotiated with the Costa Rican Social Security Administration (CCSS) to pay more than $3m towards settling Datascension's worker-employer tax debts.
One of the former members of staff of the San José call center told a Teletica reporter that they had received a letter dispensing with their services. CustomerSpeak has not responded to MrWeb's requests for further information.
