Ingredients Firm Launches Innovation Labs
In the US Ingredion Incorporated, which provides ingredient solutions to a variety of industries, has launched three 'Idea Labs' innovation centers, focused on using consumer-centric methods to create 'innovative, profitable products'. Twenty-one other Labs are planned across the world this year.
Ingredion says the centers, which build on its existing R&D and technical services facilities and those of its legacy companies Corn Products and National Starch, are 'dedicated to fostering science-based collaboration and problem solving for food, beverage and industrial customers in four key areas: consumer insights, applied research, applications knowhow and process technology'.
The Labs will include sweetness, texture and cost optimization capabilities, including the firm's proprietary CULINOLOGY system; along with expertise in nutrition, clean labeling, delivery systems and biomaterials. Product design projects will use close collaboration with customers, partners and academic researchers.
One of the three US sites, in Bridgewater, NJ, will serve as a global hub for the centers and the application of their research. SVP and Chief Innovation Officer Tony DeLio comments: 'We are pushing the boundaries of product functionality and how we identify and address deep-seated consumer preferences'.
