Palantir Buys Social Media Polling Firm Poptip
Big data analytics company Palantir Technologies has acquired New York-based social media polling start-up Poptip, effective tomorrow. Terms were not disclosed.
Poptip, which was set up in 2012 by design student Kelsey Falter (pictured), provides a text analysis algorithm to analyze conversations taking place on social media networks, along with a platform-agnostic solution for conducting social media surveys. Its flagship Poptip Questions product enables companies to post questions on Twitter and/or Facebook and quantify the responses.
Announcing the acquisition on Poptip's blog, Falter commented: 'Over the past two years Poptip has developed deep relationships with respected brands and has gained invaluable insight into their needs. We're thrilled to be able to continue building products to help these companies as part of the growing Palantir team here in New York.'
Separately, Palantir has also acquired San Francisco-based Propeller, which offers tools to enable users to create their own iOS and Android apps.
