Edwina Dunn Becomes MRS Patron
In the UK, dunnhumby co-founder Edwina Dunn has been appointed as a patron of the Market Research Society (MRS), joining husband Clive Humby.
The pair founded dunnhumby in 1989 to analyse Tesco till data captured through the retailer's Clubcard, and understand the shopping behaviour, purchasing patterns, and trends of millions of customers. It is estimated that the company has helped save Tesco around £350m a year since the two firms began collaborating. After selling the business for a reported £93m, Dunn became the CEO of social media analytics specialist Starcount.
In her new MRS role Dunn (pictured) joins a panel of existing research industry ambassadors, which includes WPP CEO Sir Martin Sorrell and MORI founder Sir Robert Worcester. MRS CEO Jane Frost commented on the appointment: 'Edwina brings a breadth of experience and is a welcome addition to MRS. She is a strong role model in business and is well-placed to boost female participation in research industries.'
Dunn said one of her aims is to address the data skills shortage, working particularly to empower women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) industries.
