AOL Research Director Appointment
AOL has today announced the promotion of Karin Sieger to the position of UK Director of Research & Analysis, marking the increasing importance of the research function to the company.
Sieger has developed the Research & Analysis function at AOL in the UK from scratch and in less than two years has built up a substantial operation, which now powers a great deal of the company's strategic thinking and informs decisions at every level of the business. The team works across all business units to provide customer, consumer and market insights.
Commenting on Sieger's promotion, Karen Thomson, AOL UK's chief executive said: 'Karin and her team have helped us improve our understanding of our members, our market and our competition. This promotion is a reflection of the outstanding contribution made both by Karin personally and her team in creating an operation which now gives us a clear competitive advantage.'
Sieger is a research professional with 17 years experience on the supplier and client side. Starting off as a telephone interviewer at NOP, Karin subsequently joined political pollsters MORI. In 1990 she moved to the BBC where she was research manager for the World Service before moving to BBC Worldwide to support the roll-out of international cable and satellite channels. In 1997 she joined De Beers as research controller for the Asia-Pacific region. Three years later she returned to media as International Head of Research for the Internet start-up beenz, before joining AOL.
