Blackboard Buys X-Ray Analytics
Education technology company Blackboard has acquired research-based predictive analytics tech firm X-Ray Analytics. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
X-Ray provides insights on learner behavior, and identifies trends at course, cross-course and institutional levels. It also offers statistically-based predictions of likely future behavior, academic outcomes and risk factors.
The firm's technology will now be integrated into Blackboard's learning management systems Moodlerooms and Enterprise Moodle, and will be used to enhance the analytics capabilities of other Blackboard applications and analytics solutions.
Mark Strassman (pictured), Blackboard's SVP of Industry and Product Management, comments: 'Learning analytics is a strategic approach that institutions across the world are increasingly adopting to make more informed decisions and take more effective actions to support learners. X-Ray Analytics technology will provide insights and recommendations directly within the learning environment that have statistical validity and levels of certainty that are not provided through standard reporting'.
