SurveyMonkey Plans HQ Move to San Mateo
In California, online DIY research specialist SurveyMonkey is planning to relocate its headquarters from Silicon Valley's Palo Alto to the new Bay Meadows development in San Mateo.
The move, which will take place at some point in early 2017, will see the company move to a 210,000-square-foot building called 'Station 4', which is currently under construction and which the firm says will allow enough space for its future growth. The Bay Meadows development is sited on a former horse racetrack, and includes housing, office campuses and parks near to Hillsdale Caltrain station.
The relocation follows a city council proposal to introduce a cap on commercial development, which will limit the building of new offices downtown and around California Avenue and El Camino Real in Palo Alto to 50,000 square feet annually. Earlier this year, SurveyMonkey co-signed a letter publicly opposing the proposal.
SurveyMonkey spokesperson Bennett Porter says it is the city's high real estate prices and the company's requirement to keep the team together that have driven the decision to relocate.
