4% Growth for UK Research Firms
In the UK, the Market Research Society (MRS) has published its Annual League Table, with data drawn from 86 eligible organisations generating a combined turnover of more than £2.7 billion. The figure represents overall year-on-year growth of 4%.
To qualify for inclusion, research and insight firms must have UK-based turnover exceeding £3m. In the latest rankings, 61 of these organisations (71% of the total) reported increased turnover. The Top 20 firms account for around 75% of turnover value, and comprise twelve UK businesses, five from the US, and one each from France, Germany and the Netherlands. There have also been six new entrants matched by six departures since last year.
In addition, the MRS has released a listing that ranks the 'Top 50 Individual Agencies by Turnover', which breaks corporate groups into their individual businesses. The release also includes the twenty fastest-growing agencies by organic growth, acquisition, or both.
CEO Jane Frost comments: 'The tables reflect the diverse nature of the UK research industry, and exhibits the wide range of talent and methodologies deployed by organisations - from the largest public global groups to the boutique businesses. Four per cent overall growth for those businesses represented in the MRS Annual League Tables is great news for the research industry. It demonstrates that many businesses have not only left the difficulties of the recession behind but are now beginning to grow more tangibly'.
