OzTAM Readies Video Player Measurement Launch

Australian TV audience measurement body OzTAM has announced it will launch the initial phase of its Video Player Measurement (VPM) Report in February.

Doug PeifferThe service will be launched in the week commencing Sunday 7th Feb, with the first public reports encompassing rolling seven-day data available the following week.

As a complementary service to OzTAM TV ratings, the new report captures all online video content played live or on-demand via participating broadcasters' video players. It offers an approach to capturing census level data on exactly what content is being played, and promises to deliver metrics consistently across online video player services. OzTAM is also exploring how to bring demographic data into the report in 2017, to allow users to see who is watching what on various devices.

The launch is the first step in a multi-stage programme, and OzTAM is now meeting with the industry to explain the report and get feedback on what users would ultimately like from it. Additionally, the body is seeking the views of international research companies to meet the future needs of the TV ratings service in Australia, and help choose suppliers and determine how its measurement service evolves from 2018 onwards.

OzTAM's CEO Doug Peiffer (pictured) comments: 'We're excited to offer a market level picture of how much TV content Australians are actually playing on connected devices. The VPM Report will give our clients further insight on how Australians consume their favourite television content, whether it is live or playback viewing on their TV set - and therefore captured in OzTAM TV ratings - or via a broadcaster's video player on the viewer's connected device'.
