IBM Completes Truven Acquisition
IBM Watson Health has completed its $2.6bn acquisition of cloud-based healthcare data firm Truven Health Analytics, boosting the division's headcount to more than 5,000 employees.
IBM says the deal brings it 8,500 clients, including US federal and state government agencies, employers, health plans, hospitals, clinicians and life sciences companies. Watson Health's cognitive computing capabilities will now be brought to bear on Truven's health data, which includes cost, claims, quality and outcomes information. The combination gholds out the prospect of healthcare organizations tapping combining previously disparate data sets, including vast amounts of structured and unstructured data, to find new insights to inform a broad range of health decisions and help improve the quality of care at lower cost.
