Airbnb Opens Innovation Studio
Accommodation rental marketplace Airbnb has launched an innovation and design studio called Samara, tasked with developing new ideas and services to support its community.
 The new business brings together design and engineering experts from Airbnb, to develop services and ideas and extend the company's offering into new areas. It will also work on the development of new architecture, service design, software engineering, and economic models. One initial project will develop a guesthouse in Yoshino, Japan, proceeds from which will be used to strengthen and rejuvenate the local area.
Commenting on the studio launch, Chief Product Officer and co-founder Joe Gebbia (pictured) said: 'Samara will give us even more experimental space to apply what we've learned over the last eight years and pioneer services for connection, commerce, and social change within and around the expanding Airbnb community'.
