IAB Hires Yahoo! Exec to Lead Data Center
In New York, former Yahoo! exec Dennis Buchheim has joined the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) in the newly created role of Senior Vice President, Data and Ad Effectiveness, and General Manager of its Data Center of Excellence.
Launched in January, the center is an independently funded unit within IAB, with a remit to set up research projects, host events and develop best practice guidelines. In July, the center introduced a benchmarking system called the IAB Data Maturity Model, to help brands, agencies, publishers, and data technology vendors understand their clients' use of data across digital media and the advertising marketplace.
Buchheim (pictured) joins from Yahoo!, where he served as VP of Product Management for programmatic and premium advertising, targeting, measurement and insights. Before this, he worked at Microsoft, where he initially focused on ad and web search products distribution, and was later promoted to the role of GM of Display Monetization, before taking on product management of Microsoft's ad exchange and ad network, and finally leading program management for display advertising overall. His first role in advertising was as GM of Inktomi's paid inclusion business, which he helped to expand after the company was acquired by Yahoo!
In his new role, Buchheim will run the day-to-day activities of the center, while executing programs that promote effective advertising through the responsible use of data. In addition, he will oversee IAB efforts to establish and educate the industry on 3MS (Making Measurement Make Sense) and new measurement requirements. Patrick Dolan, IAB EVP and COO, comments: 'Dennis' expertise in developing demand-side platforms, ad exchanges, ad servers, targeting platforms, audience insight tools, and more, will be a tremendous resource to IAB's efforts to advance the industry forward in data, measurement, and ad effectiveness'.
