Meltwater Buys Social Media Analyst Sysomos
San Francisco-based media intelligence specialist Meltwater has continued a recent spate of acquisitions, buying social media analytics firm Sysomos for an undisclosed sum.
Meltwater says the latest buy will allow clients to analyse social media, news and 'other human-generated content' on a single platform, with particular benefits for PR and communications professionals dealing with influencers. CEO and founder Jorn Lyseggen comments: 'With our acquisition of Sysomos, we can bring together news and social media under one company, giving social data context while adding social engagement to our news and media monitoring offering'.
Former Sysomos CEO Peter Heffring (pictured), who joined when the company itself acquired marketing platform Expion in July 2015, will lead Meltwater's new social analytics division. Heffring says Meltwater's AI models and information extracted from the unstructured web will enhance the search and analytics experience in the Sysomos Platform, giving clients the additional context they need.
The buy was Meltwater's seventh in eighteen months. A month ago it bought London-based social media analyst DataSift, and eight months ago it bought real-time data analytics app Algo.
