New Toronto Center for WPP Staff
WPP is the anchor tenant in a new building in Toronto's Waterfront Innovation Centre, which will be used to colocate 2,000 staff from a large number of its agencies including Kantar, from late 2021.
The global marcoms group, recently shaken by the departure of its founder and CEO Sir Martin Sorrell in less than ideal circumstances, is to occupy approximately 260,000 square feet of the new building. WPP began its policy of co-location with an office in Chicago in 2005, and now has campuses in five New York City locations including 3 World Trade Center (announced last month), and in Dearborn, MI. In Europe, it has campuses or lease commitments in major cities in six countries, in Latin America three cities / countries, and Asia Pacific five cities in four countries.
Mark Read (pictured), WPP's COO and currently the hot favourite to succeed Sorrell as Chief Executive (tipped by The Wall Street Journal on Friday), says of the Canadian move: 'The Toronto co-location allows proximity for all the Group's people in a building that will be state of the art in terms of technology infrastructure. It will make it easier for our people to work together and give clients what they want: agile, integrated solutions, world-class creativity and technology, and great work'.
GroupM, Grey, J. Walter Thompson, Mirum, Ogilvy and Wunderman are among the other firms moving in with Kantar. Web site: www.wpp.com .
