SEC Invites Social Media Monitoring Bids
In the US, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has invited contractors to bid to supply a social media monitoring tool, and is offering a budget of up to $27.5m for the task.
The Commission is looking for a web-based subscription to a commercial off the shelf (COTS) social media monitoring tool that provides e-mailed alerts to SEC staff based on keyword searches for relevant topics, and has the ability to monitor social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Google+ and LinkedIn. The system must also be able to monitor public forums, message boards and public news sites. The SEC is clear that it is not seeking sources to develop a new solution, or the customization of an existing product.
Requirements of the system include the ability to batch mine social media data feeds, optimally through an API, possibly with sentiment analysis. The system should also be able to identify fake accounts, including probable bot accounts and fake accounts opened by individuals.
