Two Australian Acquisitions for Ipsos

Ipsos has acquired two Australian agencies, to operate under the existing Ipsos Australia banner. One is the Research Division of the NCS Pearson group, the Australian subsidiary of the British media group Pearson, specialists in data collection, software and systems, the other social research agency Mackay Research.

NCS Pearson Research ranks among the top 8 agencies in Australia and specialises in the provision of data collection services, software and systems. It has offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Mackay Research was founded in 1979 by Hugh Mackay, and publishes The Mackay Report, a research-based subscription quarterly looking at Australians' mood and mindset on specific topics. The wide range of readers includes corporations, advertising agencies and government and non-government organisations.

The acquisitions will broaden the range of Ipsos' offering Down Under, to offer data collection and processing, advertising research, marketing and modelling, and social research to a client basewhich already includes Colgate Palmolive, Optus, MacDonalds, Kimberly Clark, and Integral Energy / Australian Gas and Light. With estimated revenues close to $AUD 20 in 2004, Ipsos Australia will enter the top 5 market research companies.

According to Richard Mecchi, CEO of Ipsos Asia: 'The Australian market ranks 10th in terms of global research expenditure and 3rd at a regional level, behind Japan and China. It is therefore important that Ipsos consolidates its position in this market which is key for major global and regional companies'.
