NPD Launches Gifting and Registry Trends Snapshot
In the US, retail information provider The NPD Group has released a dashboard called the Registry Snapshot, studying trends in 'gifting and registry' - as used for wedding present lists or baby showers - for select retailers.
The new snapshot, which includes data compiled from 40,000 individual registries across online and brick-and-mortar retailers, offers information on registry type, retailer, category performance, top brands, sub-category conversion rates, average list price and average amount spent. Additionally, attitudinal and behavioral insights collected through a consumer survey will be available in the coming weeks, to help clients identify those factors driving registry selection in terms of retailer, creation type (online vs. in-store), and purchase dynamics, including post event intentions and purchase behavior among gift givers and registry owners.
The launch also promises to highlight current gaps in knowledge of registry pricing, brand inclusion and sell-through, and help understanding of event importance by size and value. Juli Lennett (pictured) SVP and Industry Advisor for the Group's US Toys Division, comments: 'NPD's Registry Snapshot will provide our clients and retail partners with comprehensive insight into gifting and registry trends, a market segment that is often overlooked. It will help to guide marketing strategy efforts more efficiently, giving marketing teams a better understanding of retailer attitudes and category importance'.
