Online Property Firm Domain Opens Data & Insights Unit

In Australia, online property advertising business Domain has added a Data and Insights unit to its Content and Audience Division.

Tobias JohnstoneDomain provides property advertising and media online, via mobile, social media and in magazines, as well as technology services to the real estate industry. The new unit will provide clients and readers with insights based on internal data from Domain's various assets, and external data. It is led by newly-appointed Content and Data Director Toby Johnstone (pictured), who is tasked with growing the business's audience and user base. Johnstone was previously the firm's Editorial Director - News, Digital and Social, and earlier worked for Domain parent company Fairfax Media as Deputy Domain Editor.

In his new role, he leads a team made up of economists, researchers and property analysts, using both internal and external data to make sense of the Australian property market. As the unit launches, Johnstone has appointed former Reserve Bank economist Trent Wiltshire as Economist, Nicola Powell as Senior Research Analyst, and Eliza Owen as a Research Analyst.

Talking to online publication Mumbrella, Johnstone said: 'This team works with multiple other Domain divisions - including the Data Science team - to bring together the wealth of talent and data we have... Our data-driven stories and research pieces perform exceptionally well because Australia wants to know what is happening in the property market. The key here is turning data into insights to allow Australians to make the best decisions about property'.
