BARC India Elects New Chairman
TV audience rating body BARC India has elected Zee Entertainment's MD & CEO Punit Goenka as its new Chairman. He takes over from Nakul Chopra who has completed his one year tenure with the organisation.
BARC India (The Broadcast Audience Research Council) was launched in 2015, and later that year partnered with Nielsen/Kantar joint venture TAM India to form a new meter management company providing ratings data as the 'sole trading currency' for the country. Goenka (pictured), who was the founder Chairman of BARC India, began his career with conglomerate the Essel Group, before joining Zee, where he has been responsible for expanding international presence to 171 countries, and its reach to more than 1 billion viewers.
Chopra comments: 'BARC India in the past one year has made enormous strides in the insights and analytics space. That apart, with visualisation products like the BIO suite of products as well as OOH viewership measurement, BARC India has been able to give to the industry a powerful tool which will help in its growth. I am glad that I have been a part of this journey and I wish Punit all the best for all the future endeavours'.
