In the US, TV, film and video research firm ScreenEngine/ASI has hired Tony Calfo as Senior Vice President of its TV News Group, which provides both national and local TV news divisions with insights to help them reach and retain viewers.
The firm's film research capabilities include recruited audience screenings, positioning studies, film focus groups and ad testing, with proprietary methods including TrailerTrak; competitive tracking study Tracktion; and PostTrak, offered in partnership with Comscore. It also provides television clients with multi-mode testing and in-home content testing, and in February it acquired media research consultancy The Diffusion Group (TDG).
Calfo (pictured) joins from survey platform SimpleOpinions, where he served as Executive Vice President, having previously spent twelve years at media research and consulting firm SmithGeiger, latterly as VP, Research Strategies. Earlier, he held research roles at ABC Television, WB Television Network, KCOP Television, KCAL Television and Warner Bros Television.
In his new role, Calfo reports to company President Bob Levin. Founder and CEO Kevin Goetz comments: 'Tony's vast television expertise in a variety of areas including consumer insights, programming, marketing, sales and production is a welcome addition to our firm. The recent expansion of our TV News Group adds to the significant growth in services for our TV/OTT customers'.
