Mediametrie Adds Podcast and Catch-Up Radio Measures
In France, audience research leader Médiamétrie has launched measures for catch-up radio (content listened to after the broadcast) and native podcasts (those with original audio content).
Médiamétrie was established in 1985 and measures audiences for TV; radio; computer, smartphone and tablet; cinema and cross-media in France and abroad. Turnover in 2018 was EUR 102.7m.
The new metrics include number of listeners, listening times and amounts, and listener profiles, based on a nationwide panel of 3,000 people aged thirteen and older. Panellists provide daily information via a personal portable audience meter using watermarking technology. Published on a monthly basis, the measures will complement Médiamétrie's eStat Podcast, which was implemented in 2009 and counts daily download volumes with fine granularity to deliver results per programme and per episode.
Emmanuelle Le Goff, Director of the firm's Radio Department, comments: 'This new measurement plugs a genuine gap in the market. Catch-up programmes and podcasts are now commonplace. These listening practices go beyond live programmes to form part of an extended audio universe. Médiamétrie supports these practices and offers an unprecedented and complementary measurement of existing devices'.
